The IBA, the most senior international organization of lawyers, and the Israeli Bar Association hosted the first international conference of its kind in Israel, with the subject being "The Influence of Globalisation on the Legal Profession". The conference was held in Eilat from 31.05.2009 to 2.06.2009.
The conference dealt with some of the most pressing issues in Israel and abroad: the role of lawyers as "gatekeepers"; the conduct of transactions and class actions in several countries simultaneously; criteria for the election of external counsel to companies; lawyers in special roles: inter alia, political, public and diplomatic.
The conference, organized and managed by Advocate Eytan Epstein and Advocate Rachel Levitan, was attended by more than 100 foreign lawyers from all corners of the globe, legal advisers of well-known international corporations, judges and senior Israeli lawyers.
The conference was roundly acknowledged both by its organizers and its participants as a tremendous success. The head of the Israeli Bar Association, Advocate Yuri Guy-Ron, indicated that the conference constituted an impressive achievement for the Israeli Bar Association and added that it was only a fledgling first step.
